NEWS: Tourism plummets in E Cape

Jobs lost as 60% fewer vistors stop over in province.

The number of domestic visitors to the Eastern Cape has decreased because the
province is not spending enough on marketing and it has failed to develop
effective public private partnerships in the tourism sector, according to experts.

Last week, Tourism Minister Derek Hanekom announced in a written reply to
a parliamentary question the number of South Africans visiting the province
has plummeted by more than 60% in the past five years.

The visitors had decreased from 5.7-million in 2009 to 2.1-million last year.
