Up to the 12th of this month, eight-thousand-997 confirmed, probable and suspected cases of the virus were reported in seven countries, namely Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Spain and the United States.
There have been four-thousand-493 known deaths. The department nevertheless says the outbreak continues to accelerate.
According to the World Health Organisation, it is not unthinkable that 20-thousand people could become infected before the crisis is over.
