NEW: Fransman must step down - ANC

ANC Western Cape chairperson Marius Fransman has been directed by national officials to step down pending the finalisation of the investigation into the alleged sexual assault charges laid against him.

"The national officials, seized with the supervision of the ANC constitution, having considered the representations from ANC structures referred the matter to the NWC [national working committee]," ANC spokesperson Zizi Kodwa told News24.
