NEW: Driver tries to kill spider with lighter, sets petrol pump alight

A Detroit motorist unwittingly started a huge fire at a petrol station when he tried to kill a spider with a lighter.

According to Sky News, the motorist can be heard on surveillance video looking at the car and asking: "Is that a spider in there?

He has apologised to the owners of the station.
