NEWS: Human trafficking on the rise in SA

Cases of human trafficking are on the increase in South Africa. The practice often goes hand in hand with prostitution and rape, says advocate Val Dafel, senior public prosecutor.



She was speaking at the launch of a Human Trafficking Awareness Walk from Durban to Johannesburg which will take place early next month.

Dafel says there are a number of such cases in courts at the moment. Although these are usually seen as crimes of immigration, prostitution and rape, one can often pick up that they are the result of human trafficking, she added.
