Several special guests joined Archbishop Emeritus
Desmond Tutu on Tuesday night to celebrate his 83rd birthday at the
University of the Western Cape.
Guests at the 4th annual Desmond Tutu International
Peace Lecture included fellow Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and former
president FW de Klerk, Cape Town mayor Patricia de Lille, and guest
speaker Mary Robinson, the former president of Ireland.
Robinson, who is a fellow founding member of the Elders
with Tutu, focused her lecture on the inclusion of women in peace
processes and climate change concerns across the globe.
Robinson remained diplomatic as she answered questions from the audience.
There was no mention of the decision to relocate the
World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates, which was meant to be held in
Cape Town, as a result of the Dalai Lama allegedly not being granted a
visa to attend.
