NEWS: Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula says Oscar Pistorius’s athetics career is over

Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula says Oscar Pistorius’s athetics career is over.

The Paralympic champion was sentenced to five years imprisonment for the killing of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, in February last year.

Mbalula told the CapeArgus that to him, Pistorius’ conviction of culpable homicide was the end of his sports journey.

Mbalula says the Blade Runner helped to open doors for South Africa in the international sporting scene and his sentencing was a very sad moment.

The International Paralympic Committee confirmed on Tuesday that the earliest Pistorius would be allowed to compete again would be in 2019, when he turns 32.
