NEWS: Top five Jesus references by political leaders

From calling on the Messiah while campaigning for elections to slamming Thuli Madonsela for her so called "holy" tendencies, we chronicle the top five controversial Jesus references.

"I know they say Jesus will return to fetch us. But I don't know how many will stay behind. Maybe the majority." Jacob Zuma said. He said bishops and pastors were in a position to ask God to send his son again. "But this time not to fetch us, but just to come and cleanse us of our sins, because we have caused more damage than before.
 


- "When you don't vote for the ANC, you should know that you are choosing that man who carries a fork ... who cooks people [...]. "When you are carrying an ANC membership card, you are blessed. When [Jesus] fetches us, we will find them wearing black, green and gold; the holy ones belong to the ANC.": Jacob Zuma

- "Thuli Madonsela is just a person. People are going on like she is Jesus of Jerusalem. She isn't," Bheki Cele said.

- "The ruling party has become arrogant. They [said they] were going to rule until Jesus comes back. What kind of statement is that?" Julius Malema asked residents at an EFF rally in Sebokeng, south of Johannesburg.
"They need Jesus. So Jesus has come back they must go out. They are not the Alpha and Omega".

- ANC President Jacob Zuma boasted that the ruling party will not be conquered until "Jesus comes back". Zuma, who was addressing thousands of supporters in Witbank, Mpumalanga, said: ''The ANC will rule until the Son of Man comes. He must come back while we are still in power."
