NEWS: Gospel music- new kid on the block: Carmen

Very seldom do you hear Christian fold talk about the likes of Mariah Cary adn Whitney Houston as their musical heroes as that comes across as sinful  The music these stars make is considered worldly and so the staunch Christian will shun anything that comes from them.

That said, it is intriguing that Carey and Houston both have Christian roots.  Over the years they released Christian songs on some of their albums.  Unlike gospel artists, they chose to sing of things other than the word of God.

New kid on the gospel block, Caren is not afraid to name some of those music legends as her influences, citing that music is bigger than gospel and you can learn a lot outside of church.

"Growing up I listened to a lot of R&B and I got inspiration form some of the top women in the genre.

I learnt a lot from them and I use some of that in my music," she said.

Her first album, out now, The King's Daughter is a 12-track album which covers a wide variety of subject faced by young Christians.

The album is fused with various genres, including soul, pop-R&B, soft rock and jazz showing how versatile Carmen is.
