NEW: World Bank Warns SA To Create More Jobs

JOHANNESBURG – The World Bank has warned that government needs to create jobs to cope with a fast-growing work force.

In recent months, a number of large companies in several sectors have retrenched employees or discussed the possibility of cutting jobs, including companies in the mining sector. The bank says although this is bad news, the country can survive this if jobs are created for the growing working-age population.














The bank says South Africa’s working age population is set to rise by another 9 million people by 2050 and presents a window of opportunity for economic growth.
