NEW: Public protector needs support in face of harsh criticism: Cope

The Congress of the People (Cope) will register its dissatisfaction with the African National Congress (ANC) attacks on Thuli Madonsela with a placard demonstration out side the public protector’s office next week.
 

“At its very inception‚ Cope swore to defend the Constitution. Over the last six years‚ we made good on that undertaking‚” the party’s Dennis Bloem said on Wednesday. "Therefore‚ we now seek to muster support for the public protector because of the vitriol that the ruling party is spitting at her.”

A war of words between Madonsela and President Jacob Zuma was recently reignited over her report on over-spending at his Nkandla homestead.
