NEWS: ‘We’re Trying To Prevent A National Blackout’ – Eskom

Power utility Eskom has implemented load shedding in order to avoid a national blackout, said the parastatal’s chief executive Tshediso Matona on Monday.

Speaking at a media briefing at Eskom’s Megawatt Park offices, Matona apologised to South Africans for the inconvenience caused by the constant blackouts.

“We want to apologise to the nation for the inconvenience of the past few weeks due to load shedding,” he said.

“It pains us to load shed, but we are living on the edge for a variety of reasons. A blackout is a catastrophic event, so when we do load shedding we are trying to retreat from the brink of a disaster.”
