Three Eastern Cape choirs have secured spots in the finals of the annual Old Mutual National Choir Festival.
The festival’s theme is to commemorate the legacy of the late Nelson Mandela, and is set to take place on December 6 and 7 at the Chief Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre
in Durban.
Talented
members of the Transnet Port Terminals Choir from Port Elizabeth,
Zwelitsha Adult Choir and Bel Canto Singers, both from King William’s
Town, will go headto-head with other
great
choirs from around South African and Swaziland, performing classical
opera, choral and traditional African folklore acts.
Organiser Bandile Mngoma said these three choirs were among 19 announced in Cape Town recently.
He
said choosing the choirs was not a difficult task, as “the choirs gave
us true meaning of what the songs they performed were about”.
“I can safely say the level of Eastern Cape representation has really improved compared to other years,” Mngoma said.
Transnet
Port Terminal Choir and Zwelitsha Adult Choir will participate in the
large category, while the Bel Canto Singers will compete in the
standard category.
