NEWS: Entrepreneurial Revolution Breaks Out Among SA’s Teens

SA Teen Entrepreneur Foundation will launch a new initiative to grow entrepreneurs and business leaders at all high schools across the country, in attempt to curb the increasing rates of unemployment among South Africa’s youths, said the foundation’s Lydia Zingoni on Friday.

According to Zingoni, the most recent unemployment statistics recorded the country’s youth unemployment at a staggering 36% . With over 500 000 learners expected to write their final matric exams this year, the foundation is concerned with the volume of learners that will need to enter the job market next year.

“The staggering youth unemployment statistics are a stark reminder that we need to implement programmes that will make youth employable when they leave school and possibly even make them employers from a young age already,” said Zingoni.

As a result, the foundation will launch the High School Entrepreneur Societies on 28 October. The underpinning body for all these societies will be the Association of South African High School Entrepreneur Societies, a Teen Entrepreneur Foundation initiative.

“The vision is to grow entrepreneurs and business leaders at all high schools in South Africa through planting entrepreneur clubs and societies in each high school in the country,” said Zingoni.
