NEWS: Don’t murder your microbiome

MIcrobiome is the collective term for the many trillions of bacteria and the microbes that call your body hom.

You probably do things every day — take prescription drugs, eat badly, smoke and drink too much — that damage or slaughter lots of them.

So what, you might say, since there are so many? Your gut health is crucial to overall health and when your microbiome is out of balance, you lay the groundwork for disease.

U.S. Dr Frank Lipman, who practises integrative medicine, advises that apar from eating healthily, you should stay away from handsanitisers and “bring the great outdoors in ”.

Just “open the windows and let the microbes flow! Welcome them into your home , your car, y our office — the more, the merrier for your microbiome,” he says.

And get down and dirty in your garden — plant seeds, or do “any activity that connects you and y our immune system with the trillions o f microbes in the soil”.
