It was a crisp morning in the Friendly City. Some used the opportunity to slip in an ice bucket challenge others came out for a variety of reasons.
Their initiative comes at a time when the province is coming off the back of the coldest cold front to hit the area this winter. This did little to dampen the enthusiasm to celebrate the advent of warm weather.
People came out in their numbers. Some bringing along their four legged friends. Rescue services were also on standby.
There were the brave few that took the first plunge at just after 7am into the chilly waters of Algoa Bay. They described it as the most amazing experience, being in cold water this time of year. It just goes to show the best things in life are indeed free.
