NEWS: A child goes missing every 5 hours

One child goes missing every five hours in South Africa, according to South African Police Service Missing Persons Bureau.

The Bureau reported that just under one thousand seven hundred children were reported missing in 2013. While most children are eventually reunited with their families, around a quarter are never found.

NEWS: Lindiwe Mazibuko nails masters degree at Harvard University

Former DA parliamentary leader, Lindiwe Mazibuko has passed her Masters degree in public administration at Harvard University and is set to graduate next week.

Mazibuko left parliament to study further at one of the world's most prestigious tertiary institutions early last year.

Mazibuko tweeted she had received her results and was graduating next week. Mazibuko has not given details on whether she will be returning to South Africa anytime soon. Last month, she issued a statement saying she would not avail herself for any leadership positions in the DA and wished her former colleagues well.

NEWS: Krispy Kreme doughnuts coming to South Africa

“Krispy Kreme will quickly become a South African favourite.” That’s what the global doughnut company and coffee retailer is hoping for as it plans to open 31 shops in the country over next five years.

On Thursday‚ it was announced that Krispy Kreme has signed a development agreement with KK Doughnuts SA‚ in what is the US company’s first venture into Africa.

KK Doughnuts SA is owned by John & Gerry’s Brands and Fournews‚ the majority partner which has six other well-established brands in its stable: Cafe Fino‚ News Cafe‚ Smooch‚ Moyo‚ illy GO! and the soon-to-be-launched Brooklyn Brothers.

NEWS: South Africa's inflation climbs to 4.5 percent

Johannesburg (AFP) - South Africa's annual inflation rate accelerated by half a percentage point to 4.5 percent in April, official figures showed Wednesday, as the effect of low oil prices started to fade.

Inflation in Africa's most advanced economy reached its trough in February when it hit a four-year low of 3.9 percent on the back of low oil prices.

NEWS: ‘Miracle’ as Soweto baby survives shooting

JOHANNESBURG – A Soweto mother whose five-month-old baby was shot and wounded while sleeping at his home in Braamfischerville has told Eyewitness News it’s a miracle that he’s alive.

It’s understood an armed man broke down the door of the home in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The unknown man fired shots and the baby boy was hit in the chest.

NEWS: New e-tolls deal: Everything you need to know

There’s a reduced tariff for all motorists, regardless of whether you have an e-tag or not.

The new amounts per kilometre are:

Motorbikes: 18c/km (down from 35c/km)
Light vehicles: 30c/km (down from 58c/km)
Medium heavy vehicles: 75c/km (down from R1.45/km)
Large heavy vehicles: 150c/km (down from R2.90/km)

There are also lower maximum monthly caps for all types of vehicles:

Motorbikes: R125 (down from R280)
Light vehicles: R225 (down from R450)
Medium heavy vehicles: R875 (down from R1,750)
Large heavy vehicles: R2,900 (down from R3,500)
